Climbing in the Karwendel Mountains

I just came back from a great weekend in the Karwendel mountains with the Austrian Alpine Associationdoing alpine style climbing.

We left Saturday morning from Innsbruck and drove to Mittenwald were we took the gondola to the mountain top. From there we hiked down to the Dammkar hut, a very small, basic privatly owned hut with only a few beds, were we also stayed overnight.

After a short break we started our first climb, up the Predigtstuhl (1921m) via the Südwestpfeiler.

After 240 climbing meters and 8 pitches we reached the top of Predigtstuhl.

From there we had to decent through loose rubble to the Dammkar hut where we enjoyed our dinner and the beautiful evening light.

On the next morning we left around 9am for our second climb, onto the Kreuzwandspitze via the Luftige Kante.

After 280 climbing meters and 9 pitches we reached the top of our tour. On the way down we came into a thunderstorm and it heaviliy poured and even got some small hail.

I got entirely wet, but was happy to be safe back at the hut (and luckily I had enough dry clothes left at the hut :-). At the hut we relaxed for a while and enjoyed some food before descending to Mittenwald where we have left our car.
